No Sew Desk Curtain

Last week I showed ya'll my newly designed desk area with my DIY looooove sign.  This area was a mess...

I did not know how to balance organizing all my crafts, and making it cute at the same time.  I decided the area under the desk was needed for storage so I made a NO sew curtain.  I knew I wanted it to look nice and professional, but I was not in the mood for sewing.  I picked up one of these at Wal-Mart for $5.

Gotta love cheap twin sheets.  I also picked up a tension rod from Big Lots, and I already had safety pins.  First, I cut the curtain about 4 inches longer than what would be showing.  Second, I folded over my sheet about 1.5ish inches and began safety pinning.

This left enough room for my tension rod to fit through, and also to be hidden under the desk.  I wouldn't quiet call this post organizing, because all I am doing is hiding an area that may or may not be messy right now...haha

Here are two more of my desk items I am digging....

Have a happy week!!!

Store Bought: Guacamole Hummus

If I am being honest...I am not a person who cooks every night {or every other for that matter...shhhh}.  I have decided to share with ya'll some of my favorite things I find at the store.  Grocery stores are HUGE, and filled with little treasures that are waiting to be discovered.  I have been eating this Guacamole Hummus almost everyday...It is SO SO SO good.  Holy moly, Holy Land got it right.  I love eating this with my pita chips, you can find the recipe {here}.  This is also good with red bell peppers!  You can find the hummus in the deli section of Super Target.  Beware this can be addicting :)  Have a great week!!

Book Pages Love Sign

I have been staring at my desk a lot lately...well, that isn't hard to do, because I have only 3 rooms in my apartment{bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen/dinning/living/officeing{?} room}.  I have most of my crafts located in this area, and it seems only fitting that this area is fabulous.  Here is the desk when I moved in:

I half tried decorating the desk area once...

Ugh.  I will talk to you more later about hiding organizing my things.  Today, I am just talking about my "new" sign.  I had this frame from college {there were some really terrible pictures of me from my freshmen year}.  I love this project because it is SO easy.  First, I mod podged old book pages onto the glass.

I did not worry about cutting the pages, because the glue made the paper wet and easy to tear. I picked up these letters at Hobby Lobby for half off. :)  This project only cost me $8, because I already owned the book, frame, and mod podge.  Here are the three set ups I was deciding between.

This is what I picked!

Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hi ya'll!  I hope you are having a great weekend!  I am sitting in a hotel in Fayetville, AR waiting for the OU/fsu game to start {so nervous}.  My Mom and I drove up here to see my baby razorback brother.  I wanted to bring him some cookies, and this recipe looked too good to pass up! I found this recipe on Tasty Kitchen by Mel from Mel's Kitchen Cafe Here is what you will need:

  • 2 1/2 Sticks of butter
  • 1-¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1-¼ cup Sugar
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2-½ cups White Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1-¼ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1-¼ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1-¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 2-½ cups Quick Oats
  • 2-½ cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips
Preheat oven to 350.  Cream butter and sugars.

Add eggs and vanilla, mix until well combined.  Slowly add the flour until well combined.  Add baking powder, soda, salt, and oats.  Mix until well combined.

Stir in chocolate chips.

Using a cookie scoop, scoop dough onto cookie sheet.  Bake for 10 minutes.  Now...I am a little ashamed to write this.  I consider myself a some what healthy person, but I was not the night I made these.  I had a complete collapse.  I just could not make myself stop eating the cookie dough...I ate so much of it I decided I didn't need to eat dinner.  :) Meal replacement right?!  Needless to say, I felt sick for the rest of the night. It made me laugh when I noticed this written on the back of the flour...

I should of listened to the flour.  Oops.  If you are looking for a new cookie recipe to try {or dinner...} these cookies were fabulous.

Outdoor Pallet Bench

When I was searching for an apartment, a patio was one of my non-negotiable items.  Although, my patio is not huge it is perfect for me!  I have been wanting to make something out of pallets for a while...I really love the industrial chic look.  So, when I saw this idea on Prudent Baby, knew I had found a winner!  My Granddad helped me again on this project.  First, I found some pallets:

They were FREE!  Yesssssss.  I did take them from behind a dumpster, but don't you worry, I asked first.  :) Next we cut them down to the size of the cushion I found.  This is not an ordinary was actually my baby bed mattress.  Which was also....FREE.  I can't decide if is gross I am using a mattress that was slept on by myself back in 1986.  The FREE part convinced me that it was okay.  We added wheels to the bottom to make it look more industrial.

We Granddad attached the wheels.  I originally wanted wheels with locks, but these were all my Granddad had.  I knew I could figure out a way to keep it still, and I did by sitting the wheels in little metal rings from an old curtain rod.  Now on to beautifying the mattress.  I got black outdoor fabric from Hancock's.  I didn't really want to sew the cushion {feeling a little bit lazy I guess}, so I just used safety pins!  First, I did body of the pillow.  Then, I wrapped the ends like I wrap a Christmas present {probably one of my top 5 fav things to do}.  I first pull the edges to the middle.

Then I roll the flap over.

Now on to making pillows.  I had all these laying around my house...

I know, they are u.g.l.y they ain't got no alibi, they ugly yeah-yeah they ugly.  So I used some coral and gray fabric {also from Hancock's} to make pillows.

I {think} I am happy how my bench turned out!  I am considering staining the pallets gray.  I would like them to look a little more...worn.  :)

Hope you are having a great week!

Chocolate Toffee

This might be one of my favorite chocolate recipes...might be...but I do love puppy chow though and smores and cookies and cupcakes...I just love chocolate.  I think this recipe is extra fabulous, because it is easy and does not take many ingredients.

The Goods
  • Club Crackers
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 pinches of baking soda
  • Bag of Chocolate Chips
*Optional* I added the red M&M's and marshmallows for my OU tailgate!

Preheat oven to 350, and spray your rimmed pan (sheet cake pan) with non-stick cooking spray.  Place crackers on the bottom of pan.

Bring butter and brown sugar to a boil in a small sauce pan.  When mixture begins to boil add your baking soda and stir.  Remove from heat, and pour sugary butter {yum} mixture over the crackers.  Make sure you cover completely.

Bake at 350 for 7 minutes.  Pour chocolate chips over the top immediately after taking out of the oven, and allow to sit for two minutes.

With a spatula spread chocolate chips all over the crackers.  After this I sprinkled my M&Ms and mallows.

OH goodness....This is making my mouth water.  Now place pan in your freezer for 30 minutes.  Make sure you do not over freeze, because it makes cutting very difficult.  After the 30 minutes take your pan out of the freezer, and cut your toffee.  There is not really a method to cutting toffee...I just start on one of the edges, and the toffee will crack on its own.

Tailgating might be one of my favorite things.  Food, family, friends, and football...what else could a girl want?  Speaking of family, Baby Parker so cute and getting huge!  Love this little man.

I hope next game isn't quiet so hot....

Felt Flower Magnets

Hello!  Oh goodness I LOVE three day weekends...LOVE them.  I feel recharged, and happy that so many items got checked off my to do list.  I am also happy, because my SOONERS won on Saturday!  I feel like I have been crafting/decorating/vampire diarying everyday for the past month.  Hmmmmm So fun! One of my project last week was making my magnetic board a little  Here is what you will need.

First step is creating the felt flowers {including gluing the bottoms}.  I have made them before HERE.  A couple of things I did differently: 1) I made them much smaller so they would fit perfectly on the magnets.  2) I also cut the felt thinner so it would not stick out so much on the board.

Add glue to your magnet...

Add the flower to magnet...

TaDa!!!  All I could find was random pictures that had been taken out of frames...I need to do some picture ordering.

Awww we were such babies.  To be 21 again...

Here is the finished wall {well, almost finished}.

Have a FABULOUS short week!
