OKC Weekend!

Hello there!  I had such a wonderful weekend in Oklahoma.   I ate lots of good food, hung out with friends & family, held sweet babies, and ran a half marathon.  The half marathon was really rough... I don't know if it was my training, the two hour rain delay, or ramming my pinky toe into a shopping cart, but I was tired at mile two. Which is no good when you have to run 11 more miles.  Every picture my parents took I look like I am in terrible pain hence only two small pictures from the race.  :)

Tall Tan Man and I are still on the house hunt {3 months, 9 bids rejected, and 50+ homes looked at}.  People keep saying when it is meant to be it will happen.  Let's hope that happens before our lease is over in June!!!

Something exciting happened!

Hi there!  I just have a quick sec, because Tall Tan Man and I are going out to celebrate his birthday.  :)  We can't celebrate on his birthday this year, because he has a training weekend in the mountains and I have my half marathon.  Before you go and get all judgy, I had this planned first and then he went and got himself promoted...

Alright, you didn't come here to hear me whine...  A few weeks ago I got contacted by {The Nest}, which is affiliated with The Knot and The Bump about my {outdoor pallet bench}.  I was SO excited that they had interest in putting it in their digital magazine!

There it is!!!  I have to give my Grandad a shout out for helping me make it.  You can check out the entire magazine by clicking {here}.

Well, I am off to Ooooooklahoma tomorrow for my half marathon and to see some of my favorite people.  Say a little prayer the weather stays calm!

Happy Easter

Hi y'all.  Easter has been a wonderful day in the Jarrett house.  We started our day with a yummy breakfast, then church downtown and a late lunch with Tall Tan Man's family.  I have had the song below stuck in my head all day and absolutely love it.  You can watch the video {here}.

For The Cross
by
Jenn Johnson, Ian McIntosh, & Gabriel Wilson

The life You gave
Your body was broken
Your love poured out
You bled and You died for me
There on the cross
You breathed Your last as you were crucified
You gave it all for me

Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a friend
Hallelujah, King forever
We thank You for the cross

There in the ground
Sealed in the darkness
Lifeless laid
The frame of the Father's son
In agony
He watched His only be sacrificed
He gave it all for me

But on that day
What seemed as the darkest hour
A violent hope
Broke through and shook the ground
 And as You rose
The Light of all the world was magnified
And You rose in victory

Hallelujah, it is finished
Hallelujah, it is done
Hallelujah, King forever
We thank you for the cross

Though our sins are scarlet
You have made us white as snow

Carrot Cake Cookies

Happy Thursday!  I have wanted make Carrot Cake Cookies for a while now, and with Easter this weekend I decided now was the time.  I made this recipe based off of my {Peanut Butter & Chocolate Sandwich Cookies}.   You're probably thinking I am crazy because Carrot Cake is not similar to the divine PB/Chocolate combo.  What you probably didn't think about is that I am using a boxed cake mix...Things are continuing to get weird, just stick with me please :).  I was also super skeptical that these cookies would turn out good, but to my surprise they were wonderful!

Cookie Ingredients:

1 Box Carrot Cake {duncan hines*}
6 oz Cool Whip {softened}
1 Egg
1/2 tsp Vanilla
Powder Sugar

*The cake mix I bought came with carrots and raisins in a separate pouch.  Next time I will probably grate my own carrots {1/4 cup} to get a more authentic carrot taste/texture.  Please don't get me wrong I have eaten 5 cookies already and they are wonderful, and I am just thinking about next time.

Directions:

1.  Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

2.  In a mixing bowl combine carrot cake mix, cool whip, egg and vanilla {aka almost everything}.  Set your mixer on low and allow everything to combine.

3.  In a cereal bowl pour about a cup of powder sugar.  Using a cookie scoop, scoop dough into powder sugar and roll it around until fully covered.  Roll each scoop in your hands to make the perfect sphere.

4.  Place scoops on a baking sheet and bake for 13 - 16 minutes.

5.  Next you will want to make the Cream Cheese Frosting.  I used {this} recipe and it was the perfect amount!

6.  Place a big spoonful of frosting on the bottom side of one cookie and sandwich another one on it!  Enjoy right away or store in the refrigerator!

Are you making anything special for Easter? I am thankful Tall Tan Man and I have found a church we love and can celebrate Easter at!

p.s.  I took all these picture on manual!!!

Chair Update {quick fix}

Howdy!  I just wanted to say a hi and share a little project.

This chair pretty much sums up my past design taste.  Paint everything black and add damask.  When I FINALLY got to move in with husband I decided I needed wanted to makes some changes.

The simple steps are, 1) Prime it 2) Paint it 3) Use a staple gun {super cheap at walmart} to attach fabric to the seat.

 Paint Color: Rich Navy by Glidden & Cushion Fabric: A napkin from World Market {yes, you read it right a napkin!  It was the perfect size!}

DIY Wooden "Frames"

The craziest thing happened today.  I got hot.  I have been wearing my puffy coat for over 6 months now, and when I go into my car I started sweating.  This Texas raised girl did a little happy dance.  Tall Tan Man and I made these frames a while ago, and I am just now getting around to showing you them.  I first saw them on the {Love Grows Wild Blog} If I am being honest I loooove the frames, but I don't looove how they look on the wall.  We have an awkward wall in our living room and it has defeated me...  Anyway, I look forward to putting these frames in our next home.  :)

Supplies

4 - 17 by 23 inches pieces of wood
4 - 12 by 18 inches pictures
Wood Stain {we used Minawax, Dark Walnut}
Paint Brush
8 small nails
8 Clips {we found ours at an art supply store}
8 picture hangers

Directions

1.  Round the edges of your boards with a sander.

 2. Stain your boards and make sure {this} doesn't happen!! If it does make sure you have Resolve carpet cleaner.

3.  Once the boards are dry sand the edges to give it a rustic look.

4.  Measure so the picture hangers are evenly spaced on the back of the boards.

5.  Tall Tan Man put the pictures on the front of the boards with the clips attached and marked where the nails would need to go. Drive your small nails into the board where you marked.

6.  Hang your pictures!

I think these would also look cool with some digital art on them, or maybe the grocery list...   Have a wonderful rest of your week, two more days we can do this!

I am linking up with the fabulous blog The Blissful Bee.

Painted Monogram Door Mat

Oh Monday, I am glad I survived you.  I made this doormat a little over a year ago after I got married {you can tell it has gotten some good use}.  I found it at Tuesday Morning and I loved the checkered look!

I printed out a J, cut it out, traced it onto a poster, and cut it out again.

I first tried to spray paint the J on, and that failed epically. The paint did not look thick enough, and the J looked really faded.  Next I painted with white latex paint by hand.  The edges were not as crisp as I wanted, but I am still happy with how it turned out. :)

Have a wonderful week!

Spring Break 2014

I loved my spring break, here is what happened...

I ate LOTS of real Tex-Mex.  I will always love fajitas.

Had a dance/singing party with my parents.  The Voice gets my dad fired up!

Visited my old school {job}, and of course ate half my body weight in sugar and chips.

My daddy grilled chicken like no one else other can.

Celebrated my sweet friend Kelli's 30th birthday!

Had lunch with my friend Ashley and her precious son, Brooks.

Organized my parents pantry and frig.

Alright y'all, this working thing dominated me this week.  Saying my students have spring fever seems like a massive understatement...  Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!

No Wax Left Behind

It totally drives me crazy when I feel like a candle has plenty of wax left and the candle won't light.  Especially if I spent some big money on that candle...I had saved three volcano candles because I thought I could do something with the pretty jars.  I got to thinking that the amount of wax left in each might make another candle.  And it did!

Supplies

Old Candles
A freezer
Butter Knife
Wick
Glue
Wax Pan {I got mine pretty cheap with a 40% of coupon at Hobby Lobby}

Directions

1.  Go find all the candles in your house.  Make sure the candles will combine nicely.

2.  Freeze the candles for 15 - 30 minutes. If you are like me it took a little bit of work to make some room.  :)

3.  Cut the wax right down the middle.  This might be enough to make the wax come out.  If not, cut the wax into quarters.  Dump wax out onto a paper towel.

4.  Before you cook the wax you will want to get out as much of the black stuff as possible.  I didn't do this, but realized as I was melting it I should of.

5.  Melt the wax at a VERY low temperature for about 20 minutes.  Stir ofter.

6.  While you are warming the wax go ahead and glue the wick to the bottom of one of your jars.

7.  Pour the wax into your jar.   The wax will look clear.

Viola!

:)  I washed out my other jars with soapy warm water.

I love daffodils.
