Updating U-G-L-Y Hollow Doors

Hello!  I love that our doors no longer stick out like my current love handles.  haha Postpartum ROCKS, insert eye roll...

The hardest part about about blogging a house remodel is when projects take forever.  We started working on these doors October of 2014!!!  Soooo this post is just TWO years in the making.  First things first, we glued trim onto the doors and used tape to hold the trim in place.

Our doors looked like this {minus the tape} for 6 months.  The one step we should of done before we painted would be to caulk all the trim.  Then when we decided to paint our kitchen and doors all at the same time {not the best idea}.  Please learn from our mistakes and don't try to do this...

That idea did not work, and that is all I remember about that. haha We ended up nailing 1 x 2s to the top of the doors and this worked great for painting.  The door color is Dove White by Benjamin Moore.

Now our doors were so much better to look at!  The only problem was our horrible handles.  Door handles, that is.

Now I bet you are thinking we should just go to Home Depot and buy some new handles.  At first I didn't want to do this because door handles are not cheap and we have a lot of doors.  Then I caved, got some and tried to install them and it did.not.work.  Ugh.  Something you have deal with when your working with a 55 year old house.  So I decided to use Kilz Primer Spray Paint and my favorite Oiled Rubbed Bronze Spray paint.  I painted all then handles and even the screws.  I let them fully cure for 48 hours then  covered the screw driver with a paper towel when I installed them.

We have actually had our "new" door handles for 2 months and they are hold up beautifully!

Now if you are a parent I have an important tip for you!!!  When you take the handles off to paint them be very careful when you close doors.  I might have put Mack in the exer-saucer and went to take a quick shower.  When I got out of the shower I realized that the door was closed/latched and there was no handle... I was LOCKED in the bathroom.  No phone and 3 hours before Tall Tan Man was going to get home.  Option 1: Pick the latch with the end of the a tooth paste tube.  Didn't work.  Option 2: Take the pins out of the hinges.  One came out and the other would not budge.  Option 3: Run through the door.  Went back and tried option 1 again before attempting option 3, and was successful.  I {grabbed a towel} ran to where Mack was and he didn't even look up at me!

Hope everyone has a great week!

8 months old!!!

How is our sweet boy already 8 months old!?!  He is into everything and all of sudden our house is completely not baby friendly.  Why do babies love outlets, cords and stairs?  Mack has a funny crawl, it is a cross between a bear crawl and normal crawl.  Don't you worry, I already googled this to make sure it wasn't an indication for something serious.  Of course the second websites title was "does a funny crawl = autism?"  Don't worry..It Doesn't!!!  Sometimes I really wish we didn't have google...  Mack is pulling up but not cruising yet.  Last week at Target, Mack started really jabbering, I think it is because he loves Target just as much as me.  I love hearing his voice and can't wait to hear all that he has to say.

He hasn't really grown out of clothes this month.  At the start of the month he only had about 4 shirts that fit and I knew if I bought more shirts he would have a growth spurt.  Needless to say, I caved and bought him some more shirts and I'm glad I did because he is still the same size!

FYI these pictures are not quiet as easy to get as they use to be :)

Mack Attack still loves ceiling fans and trees, but now has an unhealthy obsession for tennis shoes and sunglasses.  He also very rarely smiles for strangers which makes grocery shopping interesting.  :) On an unrelated note, I hope to be back this week to share about how we updated our doors!  Y'all better get excited because tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!

DIY Dollar Spot Placemat Pillow

Can all my Target Dollar Spot junkies please stand up?!  It gets me every. single. time.  File folders? Yes, please.  Mason Jars? Yes, please.  Plastic bins. Yes, please.  Thankfully Starbucks steals my attention about every other time so I don't end up with another set of thank you notes.  ;)   When I went to Target yesterday they had all the Halloween & Fall stuff out, and I went a little crazy.  One of my more reasonable purchases was this grateful place-mat that I made into a pillow.

That is one of Tall Tan Man's shirts that no longer fits. He swears I shrunk it but we all know what that means. :)

Not too bad for $3....

I spy a last year fall dollar spot purchase...  Mack and I are headed to Oklahoma this weekend for his first tailgate!  He can barely contain his excitement!
