One Room Challenge {W4}: New Bedding & Side Tables

It's week 4 of the One Room Challenge and I finally feel like the room is coming together! I just wish I could of taken better pictures...  This room is so hard to take great pictures of because  the lack of natural light.  It was impossible not to have terrible shadows so please forgive me!  If you want to check out my other weeks they are here:

This is going to sound dorky but I was on a decorators high yesterday. πŸ˜‚ There is something about not having a clue how a room will come together and then all of a sudden it does. This week I got all the bedding put together and painted some side tables!

The bedding was not an easy decision because I knew it would dictate the feel of the room.  I didn't want boho, floral, buffalo check or ever a plain white comforter.  So a few months ago I picked up this clearance duvet from Target {only $34!} and was pretty sure I would be returning it. #indecisive

Now I’m wishing I would of bought the king size for our bedroom too! Tall Tan Man would love all the tassels. πŸ˜‚ I also got these new sheets for the bed which really makes me want to sleep in the basement.  Tall Tan Man can get up with the baby right?! The side tables I used were ones I’ve had for years.  I’m a believer in buying solid wood furniture with good lines because you transform them many times!

I bought this table in college from an antique shop and it was a distressed white... then I painted it black... then I painted it blue... and then I stripped it all off back to the bare wood. It just never looked great {and someone, cough cough my DAD, put his cups on it} and I felt like this room already had enough stained wood with the headboard.

After a trip to Ace and turning down $30 chalk paint, I decided I could make my own paint. I already had a quart of black chalkboard {not chalk} paint and a flat white paint I could mix to get the grayish black color I wanted { for free dollars πŸ’ƒ}.  Here is the other side table I painted for the room:

before...

They definitely turned out a little bluer than I planned, but it ok because navy is my favorite color!

Again, sorry for the crazy lighting... I'll leave you with my favorite shots from my third and final attempt to capture the space!

That's some sexy lighting for y'all! πŸ˜‚

  1. Oh I know you started out with the headboard, but it is TOO DIE FOR! Love it. And all of your new decor!

  2. I actually think the shadows are great, they give a sense of depth to your room that wouldn’t be there if everything looked flat. And it is a known decorating fact that the shadows give a sense of a larger room.

  3. What a fabulous project you did for decor addicts! So brilliant renovation and refurnish guidelines. Yeah, the one-room challenge- new bedding ideas and steps you explained in this cleanly shaped page were terrifically handy and worth to enjoy the highest beauties in any room. Love your brilliant job. The photos of the bed and side table look really awesome. BTW do you like to have your bed with detachable bed skirt like velcro bed skirt?
